RHINO FOR JEWELLERY DESIGN (CAD)
Course Objectives
- Understand the fundamentals of 3D jewellery design using Rhino.
- Learn essential tools for modelling, editing, and rendering.
- Develop the ability to create basic jewellery pieces.
- Gain knowledge of stone settings and presentation techniques.
Phase I – Fundamentals (Day 1 to 5)
Day 1: Introduction to 3D Jewellery Designing & Software
- Overview of 3D jewellery designing and its importance.
- Introduction to Rhino’s interface, workspace, and toolbars.
- Understanding the role of Rhino in the jewellery industry.
- Navigation: Viewports, Perspective, Zoom, Pan, Rotate.
Day 2: Drawing Curves & Editing Techniques
- Curve tools: Lines, Polylines, Circles, Arcs, Splines, Beziers.
- Editing tools: Move, Rotate, Scale, Trim, Extend, Fillet, Join, Explode.
- Practical exercise: Drawing jewellery design sketches with curves.
Day 3: Dimensioning & Text in Jewellery Design
- Co-ordinate methods: Absolute, Relative, Polar.
- Geometric tools: Snaps, Ortho, Grid, Gumball, SmartTrack.
- Text tools: Creating, editing, and extruding text for engravings.
Day 4: 3D Concept & Visualization Techniques
- Understanding viewports and perspectives in 3D.
- Wireframe, Shaded, and Rendered views.
- Understanding layers, properties, and object display settings.
- Hands-on visualizing jewellery components in 3D.
Day 5: Hands-on Practice & Review
- Practice creating simple jewellery elements (basic band ring, simple pendant).
- Troubleshooting and refining design workflow.
Phase II – Advanced Jewellery Modelling (Day 6 to 10)
Day 6: Solid & Surface Modelling Techniques
- Creating solids: Extrude, Revolve, Loft, Sweep1, Sweep2, Boolean.
- Surface tools: Surface from curve, Network surface, Blend.
- Practice: Creating a basic solid ring and a simple pendant.
Day 7: Jewellery Modelling – Rings & Earrings
- Step-by-step modelling of a ring and earrings.
- Using mirror, array, and polar array tools.
- Adding details such as patterns and engravings.
Day 8: Stone Creation & Stone Setting Techniques
- Creating gemstones (Round, Oval, Marquise, Emerald Cut).
- Prong, Pave, Bezel, and Channel settings techniques.
- Practice: Setting stones in rings and pendants.
Day 9: Rendering & Presentation
- Material application and textures for jewellery.
- Lighting techniques for realistic rendering.
- Rendering for presentation and client previews.
- Exporting files for 3D printing.
Day 10: Creative Design, Tips & Tricks, Q&A
- Extra creative design exercises.
- Advanced tips and tricks for efficient modelling.
- Final project presentation and feedback.
- Open Q&A session.
